Deji Oyebamiji
Deji Oyebamiji is an international documentary photographer and visual storyteller currently based in Ashburton, New Zealand. His work explores themes of human existence, religion, gender, politics, and culture, blending documentary storytelling with artistic expression to capture authentic human experiences and emotions.
Before relocating to New Zealand, Deji built a respected photography career in Nigeria, working with corporate organisations, charity groups, newspaper outlets, real estate businesses, and private clients. He has also worked with Impact Now in the United Kingdom, expanding his international experience and cross-cultural storytelling approach.
Deji is a professional member of the African Photojournalism Database (APJD) (a joint project by World Press Photo and Everyday Africa). He has attended many master class seminars like Canon Master Class Seminar for Nigerian Photojournalists for major Newspapers in Nigeria, The Now Collectives (TNC) , Canon Storytelling Workshop in Lagos and Nigerian Photography Expo Conference (NIPHEC); to mention a few.
Deji is the 1st Winner of the MyNaija Photography Contest organised by Canon Central and North Africa, a finalist at the National Geographic Portfolio Review, and a finalist in three categories of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA). His work has been published by World Press Photo, HIPA, African Lens, and Eyewinds India.
Since settling in Canterbury, Deji has documented local community events including Live On The Lawn, Hakatere Noodles, Multicultural Bites, and A&P Shows.
When not on assignment, he works on personal projects focused on telling beautiful stories from an authentic African perspective. Deji is available and willing to travel for projects, events, and documentary assignments across New Zealand and internationally.
